Welcometo the mini course in dog training. Reading these steps you willreceive basic advices from how to potty train your puppy to howcreate him into that wonderful loyal friend as only a dog can be. This is lesson one and it is about puppy training.
Of course, beforethe puppy is brought home to you certain things are needed, such as,a bed, food and water bowl, a collar and a leash and toys. To havethese things ready will not only make it easier for you, but it willalso be easier for the puppy to feel at home.
A good time to startthe training of a puppy is when he is six to eight weeks old. Themost important rule is to do everything on routine. Be consistentwith rules and make sure that all family members follow the samerules that have been set up for the puppy. This is necessary in orderto avoid making the puppy confused. Young puppies are veryimpressionable and vulnerable, thus, they need security. Routine is apart of creating that safe haven.
Toincrease the puppy’s feeling of security, choose a place that canbecome his own. Cover the floor with paper, put the bed and foodbowls in a corner and leave some toys there. Give the puppyattention, but not too much. Play with him gently and make him knowthat you love him. However, he must also learn to be by himselfsometimes. Remember, the puppy is still very young so he needs a lotof sleep. It is important you give him that time.
Socializing isanother key factor. Let your puppy experience many different socialsituations and keep these activities fun and without pressure. If adog has positive experience with people and other animals when young, then he will feel more secure and relaxed also in the future. Thegoal of the socialization procedure is to teach the puppy that helives in a happy and safe world. There is no need for him to beafraid of others.
