Synthetic vs. Natural Vitamins
Most vitamins on the market are synthetic. That is, they are made by a chemical laboratory from coal tar and other chemical sources, instead of from foods. They are imitations, man-made instead of being the product of plant or animal cells. The question arises: Are synthetic imitations equal to
the genuine that costs far more?
Many so-called ”experts” say that there is no difference. Notoriously, experts can usually be found to express any opinion commercial interests need to promote their wares, or keep people out of jail. Here is a case for everyone to carefully examine the facts for themselves.
The vitamins are all complexes. How can a single factor be isolated from a complex (such as starch from whole wheat) and be justifiably sold with the claim that it is equal? Purified thiamin from natural sources cannot be separated from the anti-paralysis factor, B4 (1). The synthetic thiamin, of course, will not have this extra, most important component (which corrects the fibrillations and arrhythmias that accompany the beriberi heart) any more than a synthetic carbohydrate would have the B-complex of white flour. To say that the synthetic thiamin is identical to the natural is to compare an imitation with a hypothetical, non-existent “natural” thiamin. Can you see the chicanery in the statement that the two are identical?
Again, vitamins in the living cell, in the main, are parts of enzyme systems. Natural complexes are, if properly prepared, still enzymes, and linked with their trace mineral enzyme activators. The trace minerals are in organic form (Vitamin B12, as an example, with organic cobalt). The elimination of these mineral activators from the food or vitamin concentrate is as unjustifiable as the removal of the jewels of a watch by a dealer who passes it on to an ignorant client. They, of course, are never present in the synthetic imitation, any more than there are jewels in a dime store toy watch, intended to look like the real one but not to cost as much.
Do not infer from this that synthetic vitamins have no effect. They DO have DRUG effects, pharmacological actions that may or may not have much in common with the normal nutritional action. As an example, the commonest effect of Vitamin C deficiency is "pink toothbrush.” Any good natural Vitamin C will promptly stop hemorrhagic gingivitis, but ascorbic acid has failed to have the slightest effect in careful tests made in the British Army (2). Here is where another complex is needed and only one factor was replaced. All natural Vitamin C has more or less Vitamin P in it, as the Nobel Prize winner Szent-Gyorgyi stated when he first discovered the nature of this vitamin. The Vitamin P cures the capillary fragility of the scurvy state, the ascorbic acid restores the ability of the cells to rebuild the colloidal fibrous connective tissue matrix of bone and tendon.
Tocopherols have been isolated from the Vitamin E complex and sold as “Vitamin E.” Later, we find that natural E complexes contain a factor that is the precursor of the sex hormones (3) and that the tocopherol is just the wrapper that protects the real factors from oxidation. And, in our laboratories, we have isolated another factor from the E complex that exactly performs the function of nitroglycerine in relieving spastic heart pains (Vitamin E2).
Another critical defect of synthetic vitamins is that most organic substances are stereoisomeric; they exist in right and left hand molecules, and natural foods usually are all of one kind, while synthetic imitations usually are of equal mixtures or all of the kind not wanted. The chemist terms these laevo- and dextro- forms (l- and d-). Any price list of amino acids will show how expensive the natural forms are and how cheap the synthetic imitations. Some of the synthetic forms are toxic, and usually block the assimilation of the real amino acid, if present as a contaminant or adulterant.
Now, some vitamins in the wrong form are also poison. Lactic acid in the wrong form has fatally poisoned babies when used in milk formulas (4). Pantothenic acid (Vitamin B5) in the wrong form is poison to test animals (5), causing castrational effects.
Synthetic adrenalin has failed to perform as the natural, and synthetic thyroxin, likewise. The natural forms are now known to be complexes and quite different in action (6,7).
Synthetic Vitamin D has failed to be as effective as the natural and is much more dangerous (8,9).
These are the facts. Why not be honest about it?

Experiencing Pain in Your HIPS? Here are some Remedies.
The pain you experience in your hip may come from your hip or it could come from the pelvis or the lower back. Hip pain has several symptoms. Sometimes the pain may be over the hip alone. In other cases, it may actually be along the thigh down to the knee and some times right to the ankle.
There are many reasons for the origination of your hip pain. Some of them may be minor problems that only require some over-the-counter medication. Other times, however, this pain might be a serious problem that may be treated only through surgery.
Causes:
Arthritis: This is one of the most common causes of hip pain. This is an age-related medical condition. Arthritis causes the inflammation of one or more joints in the body. This results in swelling, stiffness, pain and limited movement. A hundred different types of arthritis have been identified and documented. In this condition, the cartilage that protects the joint breaks down preventing smooth movement.
Capsulitis: The sac around the hip joint becomes inflamed and compressed. This tightness limits the range of movement. Any joint in the body can be affected.
Groin strain: The stability of the hip joint can be adversely affected if the groin muscle is strained.
Sports: Sports like basketball and soccer place a lot of emphasis on jumping and running. These activities can put a significant amount of stress on the muscles surrounding the hips. These strains can cause a lot of damage to the hips.
Some Effective Treatments:
Rest: This is, undoubtedly and unarguably the most effective treatment. It is universally accepted. The movement of the body is less and therefore there is little strain on the hips.
Light exercise: It is a good idea to perform exercises like water aerobics and swimming. These exercises are extremely supportive of the hips.
'No' to excessive alcohol: Alcohol is one of the important factors that can trigger a gout attack. The alcohol in your body increases the stress on your hips. It is advisable not to cross two pegs a day.
Drink enough water: Drink at least six to eight glasses of water daily.
Maintain an ideal body weight: By balancing your weight, you can reduce the stress on your hips and greatly reduce your chances of having osteoarthritis. You can make use of the body mass index (BMI) to know where you stand.
Make use of crutches and cranes: Crutches and cranes are devices that are created to assist a person having weakness in the lower limbs. With the help of crutches, you can keep your weight off the joint. The weight is supported by the crutch or crane. This reduces the stress placed on the joints.
Ice packs: These can help to reduce the swelling and inflammation around the joint. They must, however be used with care. They can damage the skin.

Top 10 Things You Can Do to Lose Weight a Pound a Week
A pound a week doesn’t seem very fast, but that adds up to 52 pounds a year, if you have that much to lose. You have a better chance to keep the weight off with slow, steady loss. Fad diets do not work, cost too much money, and create an imbalance in the body! These ideas are not only great weight loss tools, but excellent tips to live by. If you follow these steps, I guarantee you will add healthy years to your life!
Try these steps to lose your extra pounds….
1. Drink lots of water, with lemon – Water increases your metabolism. Fresh lemon juice has enzymes that cleanse, and creates an alkaline condition in the body. Your cells release fat when they are in an alkaline state and bind fat when they are acidic. To bind is human, to release is divine. Acidity also attracts bacteria, fungus, parasites, and is always found with cancer, reflux, and gout so drink lots of lemonade!!!!
2. Take calcium – Studies in rats on a diet show that the ones with adequate calcium lost 30% more weight. Poor skinny rats! Calcium is best absorbed when taken with magnesium and I recommend taking it in the evenings.
3. Eliminate – Yes, we are talking poop. All that protein and no fruit makes you backed up. Drink psyllium husk with water twice a day or use another good source of fiber. An apple every morning is also a great fiber source. You will be light and fluffy!
4. Omega 3 oils – Eat fish and flax seeds every day if possible. Tuna and salmon are excellent sources of protein and omega 3’s. Flax seeds are also an excellent source of omega 3’s. Omega 3’s are also great for healthy cells, great looking skin and hair, and balancing hormones! Cancer patients and many regenerative disease patients show fatty acid deficiencies when tested on the QXCI.
5. Exercise before you eat – In the morning, do something to step up your metabolism. A short walk, jump up and down, run in circles, make love (while hanging from the trapeze for bonus points!). Your body will burn fat, not food. DO NOT eat for at least one hour after you exercise. You will continue to burn fat rather than food. Your metabolism is increased for about 3 hours after morning exercise.
6. Raw veggies equal love – carrots, celery, broccoli, etc. Veggies are alkalizing. And when you alkalize, what happens? That’s right, your fat falls off. Raw veggies have enzymes that digest food better, give you energy, slowly digest and make you feel full. And of course, make you poop much better!
7. Do squats – If you do not have time to exercise, do this. Next time you are standing in front of the refrigerator visualizing ice cream (which is acidic, by the way) do 10 deep squats. After you are done you will no longer want food. You will want to sit down. Now would be a great time for a glass of water. Squat when you brush your teeth, dry your hair, or watch TV. You are building some great muscle and fat is falling off.
8. Drink green tea – no more coffee or tea! It messes with your insulin levels, which causes cravings. Green tea on the other hand, increases your metabolism, is a powerful antioxidant, and for some reason makes you burn fat. Here’s an idea – how about drinking iced green tea with psyllium husk in it and the juice of one lemon while you are standing in front of the fridge doing squats!
9. Stop the sabotage – find the positive intention behind your issues with food. If your inner mind has a powerful need to eat to fill an emotional need, have protection, or be fat due to identification issues, no amount of will power will help. The part of your mind that needs to eat in excess will get even more determined and you will be more backed up than you were before, literally and figuratively. Clear the issue and make it easy.
10. Visualize – the one thing above all else that will make the fat fall off – three times a day, visualize the weight you will be when you step on the scale each day. Here is how to do it... Get relaxed, close your eyes, imagine yourself stepping on the scale tomorrow, one pound less. Visualize. Now, notice what day it is tomorrow. Feel your feet on the scale. See the number. Smile, breathe. Squat just for fun. Imagine tomorrow. Imagine it as real, the next day, the scale and one pound less. Make a note of what day it is. Imagine the next day, same scale, new number. Fat is falling off all over the place. Visualize seven days at a time. Implant the new weight and the day in your subconscious mind. Do it in the morning when you first wake up. Do it in the afternoon when you are dozing off at the office. Do it at night before you sleep. You will be amazed. As a result of this, your brain will become convinced after a day or two that fat is supposed to be falling off. Your body will start to make changes. Your energy level will increase, you will eat less, for some strange reason you will want to exercise. And the best part is your body will follow the new belief that you have created and make subtle changes to accomplish the task that your subconscious mind believe is happening. Your cravings will stop. You will want more water. You may even poop a little more often. It can be quite interesting to see the way your mind and body responds to your efforts in manifesting your new weight.

Here are 13 fat loss tips you may not be aware of.
1. Eat the right balance of protein, carbohydrate and fat for YOUR metabolism
The Zone balance is a good place to start – but it may not be the ideal balance for you.
How do you know?
Your fat loss has stopped, and you are above your ideal
You are an apple shape – weight goes on around your trunk and stays there
Keep your lean protein (like meat or chicken) to the ideal block amount – generally this is 90 grams for women and 120 grams for men at each meal. Add a bit more if you are taller than average, or do a lot of exercise. Snacks, have 1/3rd this amount.
Cut the carbohydrates down by 1/3rd to ½ of typical Zone amounts.
This will be 1 – 2 blocks less of carbohydrates per meal, so instead of 3 you have 1.5 - 2 blocks. Choose mainly vegetable carbohydrates, and smaller amounts of fruit.
Carbohydrates trigger the release of insulin, insulin triggers fat storage. By eating less carbs and choosing ones which digest into sugar slowly, less insulin is released. Lower insulin levels allow fat to be released from storage.
Protein keeps you from getting hungry by stimulating PYY a hormone that decreases appetite, and glucagon which keeps your blood sugar levels stable. Protein also keeps your metabolic rate up.
2. Cut the stress hormones.
Stress hormones like cortisol keep your insulin levels up and stop fat release, especially around the trunk area. Stress can increase cravings and overeating.
What ever your stress – find a way to reduce it. Work or relationship, not doing what you love, unresolved issues, can all lead to chronically high cortisol levels.
Physical stresses like lack of sleep or over exercising can also keep stress hormones high. Lack of sleep triggers cortisol, high insulin levels and cravings. You need 7 – 9 hours of sleep per night.
3. Cut the toxins.
Your fat is the ideal place to store away toxins to keep them from harming you.
Cut out all the food that contains anything on the label that you don’t recognise as coming directly from nature. Eat organic food which is free of pesticides if possible.
Cut out bad fats; trans fats found in deep fried and processed foods, arachidonic acid found in fatty red meat, saturated fat in meat and dairy. Interesterified fat found in margarine increases fat storage and insulin resistance. Use olive oil instead.
Drugs – either over the counter or prescription can be toxic and some trigger fat storage.
Eat live, unprocessed whole food.
Have clean fresh additive free food. Lean meat, fresh seafood, fresh fruit and vegetables, raw nuts and seeds - preferably organic. You will get an abundance of nutrients, free of synthetic toxins.
4. Cut out artificial sweeteners.
Just the taste on your tongue of artificial sweeteners triggers insulin release, which triggers hunger and fat storage. Cut out all chemical sweeteners.
5. Omega 6 plus high insulin levels – a recipe for fat storage.
Omega 6 can be converted to arachidonic fatty acid, the building block of pro-inflammatory hormones. If you release high levels of insulin (by eating excess carbohydrates) you increase the enzymes that convert omega 6 into arachidonic acid. Barry Sears calls this fat “Toxic Fat” Your body deals with excess levels of this toxic fat by shunting it into fat cells.
Cut out any sources of omega 6, it is found in vegetable oils, soy oil, sunflower and safflower oil. Use olive oil, raw nuts and avocado – these are high in omega 9 or monounsaturated oil only. Keep your insulin levels down, by eating the right amount and type of carbohydrates (see1 above).
6. Increase Omega 3
Adding fish oil omega 3 to your diet increases fat burning. People on a diet lose more weight when they add omega 3. Animal studies show Omega 3 increases thermogenesis (increase heat production and burns more calories).
Omega 3 also appears to decrease appetite by influencing hormones like ghrelin and leptin.
People with higher levels of Omega 3 have lower body fat than those that have low omega 3 levels.
Add omega 3 to every meal to increase thermogenesis and control appetite.
Take a good quality Omega 3 supplement at each meal. You need at least 2.5 grams EPA+ DHA per day to encourage fat loss.
7. Vitamin D – keep your level in the high range
Low vitamin D levels are linked to being more overweight.
In one US study increased intakes of vitamin D improved weight loss while following a calorie-restricted diet.
If you have had no sun on your skin all winter and no vitamin D as a supplement – you will be deficient in this incredibly important vitamin.
How much vitamin D do you need?
Now that we can see the sun – get 10 minutes exposure on arms and legs daily before 10 am or after 2.00pm. You may also need to supplement.
Recent advice is to supplement with 2000iu – 5000iu per day to keep your vitamin D levels between 125 – 150nmol/L (A blood test will show you if you are taking enough)
8. Keep your body more alkaline
Keeping your body alkaline promotes fat loss according to nutritionist Dr Libby Ellis. Foods are either acid forming or alkaline forming. Our body functions best when it is slightly alkaline. Our diets have become increasingly acid forming. All grain products, all meat, protein, dairy and salt are acid forming foods. Most fruit and vegetables are alkaline forming.
Keep your body alkaline by eating lots of fresh colourful vegetables and fruit to balance protein. These are preferable to grains which are acid forming.
9. Iodine – you need to get enough for thyroid hormones, important for metabolism.
Iodine is a mineral that is deficient in our soil. This is why salt is iodised. Iodine is critical for making thyroid hormones which are important for your metabolism. However if you have little salt, you may be iodine deficient, and your thyroid can’t make the hormones you need to keep up your metabolism. Take kelp tablets, and include seaweed in your meals. 11. Take a good quality multivitamin to curb cravings

12. Do the right type of exercise.
Low level cardio is the wrong type of exercise to maximise fat burning. A long brisk walk or slow jog will burn a few calories while you exercise but it will not increase your metabolic rate much post exercise. It will not build extra muscle or trigger hormones like growth hormone that increase fat burning. Also low level cardio can increase your appetite, so undermines your weight loss efforts.
So what type of exercise should you do?
High intensity exercise and weight resistant exercise. This will result in fat burning between workouts as it increases growth hormones. Weights build your strength and muscle mass – it also tends to suppress appetite. More muscle leads to an increased fat burning capacity. And instead of a walk – do sprints. Map out 100 metres and sprint then rest, repeat several times.
Don’t over-train though, this increases cortisol. Workouts should be no more than 45 minutes long.

Weight Loss- Eating out without Breaking a Diet
A good weight loss plan is relatively easy to find. But the strength to carry it out is not always present, right? Say, you decide to finally start your diet on Monday. The Monday is finally there but a friend calls you to a dinner party- it’s not polite to say no, and when you go there and see everybody munching- you resist to join them. “Ok, next Monday”,-you say to yourself, but next Monday is something else and so forth. So the Next Monday usually turns into the “MONDAY THAT NEVER COMES”. The scale, however, shows the sad truth- you actually gained weight.
Does that sound familiar? But, how are you supposed to resist all the temptations? Don’t go out? Don’t socialize? Avoid going to restaurants or for drinks? Well, no. Off course not! You are not supposed to give up all the fun stuff in your life in order to lose weight. You can even go to a restaurant and still follow your weight loss plan. The only thing you have to do is to be careful and don’t forget you main goal.
I will try to explain it like this: If you think you’ll get a car, and instead you get a bicycle-you’ll end up disappointed, right? But if you think you’ll get rollerblades and instead you get a bicycle-you’ll be happy. You see, it’s all in the head. Great expectations are more likely to cause bigger disappointment. Now, what this has to do with food? Well, if you decide do skip a night out in the restaurant and stay home you will probably get depressed and think how all your friends are out having fun while you have to be on a stupid diet. You’ll lay on the couch, watch TV and, in the end, probably decide you deserve a treat too- an ice cream or a slice of pizza. And there you go- you broke your diet, you feel bad about it, your motivation is low, and you are still not out having fun.
However, if you do go out you will eat and break your diet, right? No! When you go out you have to keep in mind you’re on a diet. Furthermore, you need to be Proud about it because You are doing something good for yourself! Order a salad and a small portion of something low on calories- white chicken meat or a fish, for example. Eat your meal slowly and frequently take small sips of water. Make breaks to talk to your friends but don’t talk and eat in the same time. When you are eating pay attention to your food and taste every bite. Soon, you will realize that you are full before your plate is empty. You had a lot of fun, you ate, but you didn’t break the diet. The realization that you managed to control yourself will motivate you to continue and improve both- the diet and your social life.
